“Slaughterhouse-five, or the children’s Crusade” by Kurt Vonnegut
Definitely, the novel is extraordinary. It is about the fate of the author about the bombing, about Tralfamadore, Billy Pilgrime, the individual is in total chaos, devastation, and much more. You should be prepared for the fact that it’s not pulp fiction, but a work of reflection on the meaning of life and our place in the chain of time.
The background to the writing of the novel
The Foundation works — the real facts of the life of author Kurt Vonnegut. After the bombing of pearl Harbor, Vonnegut went to the front as a volunteer. In 1944 he was taken prisoner by the Germans and transported to Dresden, where, together with other captured military he worked at the plant for the production of fortified beverages for pregnant women.
In February 1945, Kurt witnessed one of the horrific bombings of the Second world war — the defeat of Dresden in the Royal air force and the air forces of the USA, during which killed thousands of civilians, destroyed the monuments and produced the horrific destruction of the city.
The prisoners were hiding at the slaughterhouse No. 5 in the basement. Kurt was among seven Americans who are fortunate enough then to survive, and then engage in the search for people trapped under the rubble. Horrific bloody scenes forever etched in my memory and Vonnegut in “Slaughterhouse-five, or the children’s Crusade” described it.
In the novel he denounces the unjustified military targets bombing the civilian population and opens their eyes to the fact that the war is immoral and corrupts people, doesn’t make heroes.
The plot
Billy pilgrim witnesses the bombing of Dresden. With him throughout the series, there are different metamorphosis. The fact is that Billy has the ability to travel through time and space, but colleagues believe that he was just crazy.
The plot is masterful. Sometimes the pilgrim lands on a mysterious planet Tralfamadore, where it’s presented as a Museum exhibit and he’s sitting there at home with the wife of a Hollywood star dies, is once again at war.
Should you read?
The book by Kurt Vonnegut “Slaughterhouse five or the children’s Crusade” — against the war. The author in the allegorical form makes you look at who fought as crowded with other planets and to try to sympathize with them, to understand and to regret.
The intertwining of fiction and reality makes the plot extremely attractive. Fictitious journey or is it the fruit of a sick imagination of the hero they never cease to be fascinating.
